Finding information on Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) is easy once you know what you are looking for. The problem is it very hard to get a diagnosis being that even amongst professional there is a negative view that people with BPD are trouble makers, difficult to deal with, non compliant or just time wasters.

The problem is BPD is a very complex illness which dances across other illnesses so much so the term Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) is an old term which doctors used to describe a mental illness which bordered psychosis   a severe mental disorder in which thought and emotions are so impaired that contact is lost with external reality, and neurosis   a relatively mild mental illness that is not caused by organic disease, involving symptoms of stress (depression, anxiety, obsessive behaviour, hypochondria) but not a radical loss of touch with reality.

Many professionals today use the term  emotionally unstable personality disorder (EUPD) one i particularly dislike basically it just highlights the emotional aspect and ignores the neurotic side , but others seem to feel that this term explains the condition much more accurately but whatever you call it it not a nice mental illness.

For suffers the first and most important thing is to get a proper diagnosis and for families of sufferers read up and learn this will help not to take things personally and understand that when we lash out it’s out of fear and nothing to do with you personally.
